Do You Really Need Expensive T-Shirts?

I've always had difficulty finding affordable hiking clothes that actually fit. They either fit me well across the shoulders and hang loose like a poncho around my waist, or they fit my waist and my upper body feels like it has been swallowed by a boa constrictor. It's for this reason that I own a pricy shirt or two. Or five.

I've found that pricier brands tend to fit, as well as hold up to the wear and tear that I put them through. However, none of this is exactly relevant when it comes to being in the woods. Who cares what you look like, all that matters out there is how you feel.

So – how do you feel? Good? Good! Then whatever you are wearing is perfect. That's really the long and short of it.

So, Where Should You Spend Your Money?

If you’re going to splurge, pants are where you should consider investing. When it comes to pants, there’s a world of difference between hiking in high-quality, trail-ready pants versus blue jeans. Nobody likes chaffing, and good trail pants will stand up to years of abuse, especially if you are willing to repair them as you go.

But the real game-changer? Jackets. A good jacket can make or break your hike. Yes, they’re expensive, but they can be worth every penny. A solid jacket keeps you warm, shields you from the wind, and packs down easily.

I used to be on Team Cheap Jackets, but recently discovered just how nice a solid jacket can be. Admittedly, this was pretty easy for me, as some of the big brands sent me their finest jackets to try, and I got to keep them. Yeah, they may feel more comfortable if I don't have to spend anything on them.

To sum it all up, I say spend less, save more, and be comfortable. Though, you may want at least be willing to spend on something that will actually increase your quality of life! Check out another Hazeadventure article about hiking clothes.
