My visit to Norfolk County was my first ever paddling trip to Southern Ontario. It was also the first time I’ve ever swapped the kayak paddle for pedals. This particular kayaking mission involved kayak fishing in Long Point Bay with Bobby Maerz of BAER Fishing Adventures.Not only was this the first time that I’ve really tried a pedal kayak, but this was the first time I’ve tried the Hobie Pro Angler kayak. I have to admit that I really enjoyed both. I’ve always appreciated the concept of hands-free paddling and the benefits it offers anglers. Now I’ve experienced first-hand how you get to cast more, because your hands aren’t tied up with a paddle.  As for the Hobie Pro Angler kayak… what a beast! It’s not an easy kayak to transport around, because it’s big and heavy.  But once you get it to the water, it’s an incredible fishing platform.  It’s very comfortable and stable, has tons of room to move around, and it travels surprisingly quick considering its size.  Although I’m far from ready to swap my paddle kayak for a pedal kayak, I definitely won’t hesitate to hop in a pedal kayak when the opportunity presents itself, especially for kayak fishing.

Long Point Bay is a truly magical place, and an ideal kayak fishing environment, because it’s a superb fishery that offers sheltered places to fish no matter what direction the wind is coming from.  Hope you enjoy the episode as much as I enjoyed filming it!
