Well, Big Creek was going to be a first descent for me, and I was really looking forward to it.  Not only had I never kayaked in Southern Ontario, but the view of the creek on Google Maps made it look really interesting.  

To experience Big Creek, I hooked up with Brian Craig of Long Point Eco Adventures, which is a resort that acts as a hub for outdoor activities in the area, like kayaking, kayak fishing, mountain biking, and hiking.

Now, without telling the whole story, what I will say is that Big Creek was like a beautiful, winding, natural, obstacle course. There was a very mild current that kept you moving downstream. The challenge was navigating through all the fallen trees. Doing so required putting my kayak limbo skills to the test a number of times.The other great discovery I had during my weekend in Southern Ontario, was Norfolk County itself.  Norfolk County is a wonderful place, with beautiful Lake Erie coastal towns, farmers markets, wineries and breweries. There’s absolutely no doubt that I’ll be returning to the area, but next time, I’m bringing my mountain bike too, because the mountain biking trails look amazing.
